The blueprint for scalable superconducting quantum computers

The quantum supremacy with a superconducting quantum processor claimed in 2019 was a milestone for quantum computation. Ambitious scaling plans have been proposed by IBM to launch processors of 1,000 qubits in 2023, and possibly of 1 million in 2030. The rapid advances in superconducting quantum computers relies on a successful circuit architecture in the intermediate scale. In this talk, I will briefly introduce the working principles of a small superconducting quantum processor, noting its pros and cons. Technological challenges and possible solutions in scaling up will be discussed. Finally, the attempt to build scalable superconducting quantum computers in Taiwan will be addressed.
